Israel to try seized Palestinian militant - radio JERUSALEM, April 26 (Reuters) - Israel will prosecute a top Palestinian militant seized in a West Bank raid last month on charges of masterminding the 2001 assassination of an Israeli cabinet minister, Israel's Army Radio said on Wednesday. It said the Justice Ministry decided that the fact Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) chief Ahmed Saadat was previously tried by the Palestinian Authority did not offer him "double jeopardy" exemption from prosecution in Israel.

Israel won't try PFLP chief for minister's killing JERUSALEM, April 26 (Reuters) - Israel will not prosecute a top Palestinian militant detained last month over his faction's assassination of an Israeli cabinet minister in 2001, Israel's Justice Ministry said on Wednesday, citing lack of evidence. But the ministry said in a statement that Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) chief Ahmed Saadat, who was seized by Israeli commandos in a March 14 raid on a West Bank prison, would be tried for other "security offences".

Dejando a un lado la confusión de dos noticias aparentemente contradictorias, lo que queda de todo esto es que Saadat sí será procesado, pero no por el asesinato del ministro israelí Rehavam Ze'evi.

Quizá no tenga mayor importancia, pero recuerdo que el Ejército israelí asaltó la prisión de Jericó para impedir que Saadat saliera libre y por tanto la muerte de Ze'evi quedara impune. Ahora dicen que no tienen pruebas.

El motivo ha pasado a ser una excusa.
