El anzuelo de la retirada
Dos largos artículos en The New York Times y The Washington Post describen en detalle cómo Obama tomó la decisión de enviar 30.000 soldados más a la guerra de Afganistán. El 'making of' está hecho probablemente con el permiso de los responsables de la Casa Blanca. Prefieren ser ellos los que dejen clara la narrativa de la última escalada militar antes que sean otros quienes la hagan. En ambos artículos, queda claro que sólo el vicepresidente, Joe Biden, se mostraba desde el principio opuesto al incremento de tropas.
La intervención más clara de Obama es la de obligar a los militares a que aceleren el traslado de tropas para poder así iniciar cuanto antes el repliegue, supuestamente marcado para mediados de 2011.
Now as his top military adviser ran through a slide show of options, Mr. Obama expressed frustration. He held up a chart showing how reinforcements would flow into Afghanistan over 18 months and eventually begin to pull out, a bell curve that meant American forces would be there for years to come.“I want this pushed to the left,” he told advisers, pointing to the bell curve. In other words, the troops should be in sooner, then out sooner.
En las entrevistas del domingo en las televisiones norteamericanas, no se ha hablado mucho de la segunda parte de la curva. Más bien al contrario. No hay ninguna "estrategia de salida".
Gen. David Petraeus: “There’s no timeline, no ramp, nothing like that.”James Jones: “It is not a cliff. It is a glide slope. And so certainly, the President has also said we are not leaving Afghanistan.”
Robert Gates: “Well, first of all, I don’t consider this an exit strategy. And I try to avoid using that term. I think this is a transition.”
Hillary Clinton said, “We’re not talking about an exit strategy or a drop dead deadline.”

Es evidente que no se quieren ir. Es un lugar muy estrategico. Hay un articulo interesantisimo que explica porque Obama quiere quedarse en Afganistan. Aqui pongo el link.
