Por las erratas los conoceréis

Regret the Error ofrece como cada año la recopilación de las mejores erratas y errores de la prensa anglosajona, un documento tan interesante como divertido. La errata del año es reciente, de The Washington Post, y originó una buena serie de bromas en Twitter.

A Nov. 26 article in the District edition of Local Living incorrectly said a Public Enemy song declared 9/11 a joke. The song refers to 911, the emergency phone number.

Luego se supo que el autor del artículo no era el responsable del cómico error, sino la persona que lo había editado. Regla sagrada de la edición: no dejes un artículo en peor estado del que llegó.

Los ejemplos de la prensa sensacionalista británica son variados. The Sun:

In my column on August 22 I suggested that Sharon Osbourne was an unemployed, drugaddled, unfit mum with a litter of feral kids. This was not intended to be taken literally. I fully accept she is none of these things and sincerely apologise to Sharon and her family for my unacceptable comments. Sorry Sharon…

Me encanta eso de "no pretendía que se lo tomaran al pie de letra". Sólo era una injuria expresada en términos generales. Viniendo de un medio propiedad de Rupert Murdoch, tampoco deberíamos extrañarnos. Lo que nos lleva a otra errata:

From a Countdown with Keith Olbermann broadcast in February:

Incidentally, a correction on Murdoch. We have quoted several times the transcript of a News Corp conference call provided by the usually reliable financial website called SeakingAlpha.com [sic], in which the News Corp boss was quoted as saying, “we have never been a company that tolerates facts.” It turns out SeekingAlpha.com got it wrong. Murdoch, in fact, said “we have never been a company that tolerates fat.”

Digamos que es una errata basada en hechos reales.

The Justice (Brandeis University):

The original article provided the incorrect location of New York University’s new institution. It is in Abu Dhabi, not Abu Ghraib.

Tiene mérito que una publicación universitaria demuestre tal nivel de conocimiento sobre el planeta. Igual es que los redactores habían sido torturados la noche anterior y tenían la cabeza en otro sitio. Otra aún más divertida:

Canadian Press:

The Canadian Press moved a story April 3 that erroneously reported The Wilkins Ice Shelf was originally part of Jamaica. In fact the Ice Shelf, located on the western side of the Antarctic was originally the size of Jamaica.

Es sabido que el famoso glaciar de Jamaica casi ha desaparecido por culpa del cambio climático. Ahí debe estar el origen del fallo.

Los lectores más devotos de The Advertiser, en Australia, debieron de pensar que Lucifer se había hecho cargo de las rotativas al leer este texto en la selección diaria de un versículo de la Biblia:

This is the thought of the day and this is where you put the thought of the day as if anyone has a thought for the day. And can’t work out what the hell is going on. But who knows what is happeningishness. – Jesus Mark 7:21-23 (Bible for Today)

Otra regla sagrada: no es bueno que los maquetadores sean muy imaginativos en los textos falsos que, se supone, tendrán que ser sustituidos por los redactores.

Y para que la gente se anime a pasar por Regret the Error, un ejemplo para el que es necesario ver la foto:

The Peterborough Examiner in Ontario, Canada, and Metro Toronto, a free commuter paper, both published a photo that showed some Peterborough-area students having fun at the Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade. One guy was really enjoying himself. So much, in fact, that neither he nor the photographer (nor subsequent editors) noticed that his penis had fallen out of his shorts.
